Biographical Information

Mark Hardy has pitched in the minors and for Team Canada.

In the 2008 World University Championship, he tossed shutout ball over 11 innings, with outings against Taiwan (1 IP), Japan (2 IP) and the Czech Republic (15 K, 3 H in 8 IP). He was named the tournament's Best Pitcher. He finished third in the event with 17 strikeouts, trailing only phenoms Stephen Strasburg and Yuki Saito.

Hardy was picked by the San Diego Padres in the 43rd round of the 2010 amateur draft; the scout was long-time Canadian scout Murray Zuk. He bounced between four levels that summer, with appearances for the AZL Padres (3-2, 3.06, 31 K in 32 1/3 IP), Lake Elsinore Storm (3 R in 4 2/3 IP), Eugene Emeralds (2-1, 3.00, 28 K in 27 IP) and San Antonio Missions (0-1, 5.23).

In 2011, the big left-hander spent all season with the Fort Wayne TinCaps. He was 11-10 with a 2.78 ERA. He placed among the Midwest League's top 10 in wins and ERA (5th). He was also 2 for 2 at the plate. He lost MWL All-Star honors as the top lefty starter to C.J. Riefenhauser. He made Team Canada for the 2011 Baseball World Cup and 2011 Pan American Games, joining fellow 2010 Padres draftee Chris Bisson (a much higher pick, going in the 4th round).

In his first appearance of the 2011 World Cup, he started against Greece. He allowed two hits, three walks and two runs (both on Jason Zachos double) before being relieved by Jay Johnson; Canada won handily.
