Biographical Information[edit]
The father of Conor Gillaspie and Casey Gillaspie, outfielder Mark Gillaspie played eight seasons of minor league ball.
Gillaspie attended Mississippi State University, for whom he played in the 1981 College World Series. He was then taken by the San Diego Padres in the 11th round of the 1981 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer with the Walla Walla Padres, hitting .262 with 12 home runs in 49 games. With the Beaumont Golden Gators in 1983, he hit .333 with 24 homers and 122 RBIs and was named Texas League Player of the Year. He ultimately peaked at the AAA level.
