Biographical Information[edit]

Mark Beck was a pitcher for Team USA.

Beck was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 26th round of the 1986 amateur draft, one pick after Scott Livingstone. He opted for college. In was 2-2 with a 3.63 ERA for the US in the 1987 Intercontinental Cup, tying John Olerud for the team lead in wins but leading in losses. His 21 strikeouts led the team as well. He was 10-7 with a school-record 162 whiffs but also 71 walks as a sophomore in 1988 as Fullerton made the 1988 College World Series. He was second in NCAA Division I in whiffs, 26 behind leader Andy Benes. A shoulder injury sidelined him in 1989, though. The Atlanta Braves picked him in the 16th round of the 1989 amateur draft and he signed but he never got into a minor league game.
