Biographical Information[edit]

Marco Duarte has pitched as high as AAA.

Duarte was signed by the Colorado Rockies in May 2007; the scout was Vinny Castilla. Marco split the summer between the Casper Rockies (3-1, 3.21 in 5 G) and Tri-City Dust Devils (2-2, 5.21 in 12 G). He fell to 5-6, 5.86 for Casper in 2008, with a .311 opponent average, though he only walked 12 in 66 innings. He was among the Pioneer League leaders in wins (tied for 9th), losses (tied for 6th), hits allowed (87, tied for 6th) and runs allowed (51, 8th).

Duarte split 2009 between the Oaxaca Warriors and Mexico City Red Devils, pitching 34 games with a 2-1, 4.25 record. In 2010, he appeared for the Red Devils (1-3, Sv, 4.28 in 29 G) and the Asheville Tourists (1-0, 9.49, .387 opponent average in 9 G). He then went 2-1 in the postseason. He had a 4.58 ERA in 11 winter ball outings for the Mazatlan Deer. In the summer of '11, he went 12-4 with a 4.94 ERA for the Red Devils. He tied Francisco Campos, Leonardo Gonzalez and Marco Tovar for the Mexican League win lead and was 5th in strikeouts (93). In the 2011 Pan American Games, he allowed two runs (one earned) in 3 1/3 IP for the Mexican national team, including a homer by Yulieski Gourriel. He had a 5-1, 2.74 record for the Aguilas de Mexicali in the Mexican Pacific League. He tied for 5th in the league in wins and was 7th with 57 strikeouts.

In the minor league portion of the 2011 Rule 5 Draft, he was picked by the Houston Astros. Houston then traded him to the Boston Red Sox for one of Boston's Rule V picks, Marwin Gonzalez. He spent 2012 with the Salem Red Sox (1-2, Sv, 3.24 in 15 G) and Portland Sea Dogs (1-0, Sv, 3.18 in 6 G). He was then put on Mexico's preliminary roster for the 2013 World Baseball Classic.
