Team History

The Casper Rockies joined the Pioneer League in 2001 and were a Colorado Rockies farm club for the entire seven seasons of their existence. The team played its home games at Mike Lansing Field. After the 2007 season the team was renamed the Casper Ghosts.

2001

In the club's first season, the Rockies made the playoffs under skipper P.J. Carey despite a sub-.500 record. However, they were swept in the first round by the Provo Angels. Outfielder Tony Miller hit .306 with 20 home runs and 28 stolen bases to earn a spot on the league's All-Star team.

2002

Darron Cox took over as the team's manager in 2002, but the Rockies posted a worse record than the previous year and did not make the postseason. First baseman Ryan Shealy led the club's offense, hitting .368 with 19 homers and a league-best 70 RBIs. He was joined on the All-Star team by outfielder Brian Barre, who hit .300, and pitcher Santos Hernandez, who paced the circuit with 8 wins.

2003

Carey was back at the helm of the club in 2003, but once again, the team posted a worse record than the year before. Casey Fuller led the league with 12 home runs, and third baseman hit .317 with 10 homers and was named an All-Star.

2004

Carey's club improved slightly in 2004, but the Rockies again missed the playoffs. On the mound, pitcher Samuel Deduno went 6-4 with a 3.20 ERA and a league leading 118 strikeouts. He was joined on the All-Star team by outfielder Seth Smith, who hit .369 with 9 home runs.

2005

The Rockies improved to .500 under Carey in 2005. Christopher Cook led the league with 15 homers, and second baseman Corey Wimberly hit a league-best .381 while stealing 36 bases. Chaz Roe paced the rotation with a 5-2 mark, while reliever Andrew Johnston notched 18 saves.

2006

in 2006, Carey's Rockies fell far below the .500 mark of the previous season, finishing last in both halves of the season. However, pitcher Brandon Hynick was a star in the rotation, going 4-3 with a 2.39 ERA, and was named the league's Pitcher of the Year. He was joined on the All-Star team by shortstop/designated hitter Hector Gomez, who hit .327.

2007

Tony Diaz took over as skipper of the club in 2007, but the Rockies once again finished in last place in both halves of the campaign. Pitcher Jhoulys Chacin was the team's top player, winning 6 games and posting a 3.13 ERA.
