Biographical Information[edit]

Marcel Jiménez has played in the Bundesliga and for the German national team.

Jiménez pinch-ran for the Buchbinder Legionäre once in the 2013 European Cup, stealing a base and scoring a run. [1] He did not play for them in the regular season that year. In the 2013 European U18 Championship, he started at 1B for Germany. He hit .211/.286/.316, went 3-for-3 in steals and handled 45 chances error-free. [2] He attended the MLB European Academy that year as well. [3]

Backing up Christoph Zirzlmeier at 1B for the Legionäre in 2014, he hit .444/.500/.500 in limited action. [4] He was 0 for 6 with two walks, a hit-by-pitch and a RBI and fielded .926 in the 2014 European Cup. [5] He played regularly for Buchbinder in 2015, hitting .311/.386/.411 with 24 runs in 24 games while splitting time between 1B and LF. He tied Sascha Lutz for the Bundesliga-1 South lead with 3 triples. [6]

The Bavaria native hit .398/.474/.494 with 21 runs in 24 games in 2016, starting in right field now. He finished 4th in the league in average (between Peter Johannessen and Simon Gühring), 7th in OBP and tied for first in outfield assists (3). [7] He was only 1 for 13 with 6 strikeouts in the 2016 European Champions Cup; he had one run, two RBI and a walk. [8] He made his debut with the senior German national team at the 2016 European Championship, starting in left field and hitting leadoff. He got their first hit, off Per Sjörs of Sweden, but was caught stealing; he still finished the day with 2 runs, 2 for 2 with a walk. His four sacrifice hits led the event. [9]

Marcel slumped to .253/.418/.355 in the '17 regular season. He led the league with five triples, one ahead of Shawn Larry. [10] He was only 1 for 15, with 3 walks and 3 runs in the 2017 European Champions Cup. [11] In the 2017 European U23 Championship, he hit .333/.615/.400 for Germany with 10 walks, 8 runs and 7 RBI in 6 games. He was 5th in the event in OBP and second in walks. [12]

Jiménez hit .261/.443/.326 in the '18 campaign and had a 1.000 fielding percentage. [13] He was 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts for Germany in the 2018 Super6. [14]
