Biographical Information[edit]

Manuel Estrada pitched for the Mexican national team and in the minors.

He led the 1953 Amateur World Series with a 0.00 ERA. [1] He then won Bronze with them in the 1954 Central American and Caribbean Games. [2] Turning pro with his hometown Águilas de Mexicali, he was 6-4 with a 4.92 ERA in 1954 and hit .197/.258/.279.

In 1955, he improved to 14-7, 4.20 for Mexicali. He tied Bill Getz and Miguel Sotelo for 7th in the Arizona-Mexico League in victories and missed the top-10 in strikeouts by two. He split 1956 between Mexicali 95-7, 5.21 in 17 G), the Alacranes de Durango (1-2, 3.50 in 6 G) and Peoria Chiefs (2 G). He pitched in 1957 for the Mexico City Tigers (6 GP), Tigres de Aguscalientes (2-3) and the Cananea Mineros (9-6, 4.54; hitting .208/.288/.302).

Estrada was 17-11 with a 4.50 ERA in 43 games for the 1958 Nogales Mineros, striking out 244 in 226 IP. He was third in the Arizona-Mexico League in wins (behind Jose Ibarra and Bob Clear), second in games pitched (behind Ibarra), tied Alejandro Murrieta for 5th in complete games (15), was 3rd in innings (after Ibarra and Lino Donoso), was second in walks (109, 4 behind Gustavo Bernal) and led in whiffs (13 ahead of Dinoso).

He next surfaced with the 1961 Mexico City Reds, struggling at 1-0, 7.96 in 13 games. He also pitched briefly for the 1962 Guanajuato Tuzos.
