Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Lynn McKinney played in the minor leagues from 1973 to 1979.

He was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the Regular January Phase of the 1971 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He was then taken by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the Secondary Phase of that year's draft, between outfielder Steve Stroughter and pitcher Paul Mitchell and in the same round as pitchers Burt Hooton and Steve Rogers. He again did not sign.

Prior to the 1973 campaign, he signed with the Kansas City Royals. He posted a 2.00 ERA and 10.6 K/9 IP ratio in 23 games (seven starts) for the Billings Mustangs that year and in 1974, he was 12-3 with a 2.23 ERA in 22 starts for the San Jose Bees. Between the Waterloo Royals and Jacksonville Suns in 1975, McKinney was 12-7 with a 2.81 ERA in 26 games (25 starts) and in 1976, he was 12-8 with a 2.52 ERA in 26 games (25 starts) between Jacksonville and the Triple-A Omaha Royals. He was 10-5 with a 1.62 ERA for Jacksonville that year; in his first taste of Triple-A, he was 2-3 with a 4.60 ERA. In 1977, he was 10-7 with a 3.42 ERA in 158 innings for Omaha.

On February 22, 1978, he was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers for catcher Art Kusnyer. With the Triple-A Spokane Indians, he was 8-10 with a 6.19 ERA in 26 games. He pitched in the San Diego Padres system in 1979 and went 7-10 with a 3.64 ERA for the Hawaii Islanders.

Overall, McKinney was 67-51 with a 3.28 ERA in 170 games (145 starts) over seven seasons.

After baseball, he became a lawyer and worked as a public defender before he died of cancer.
