Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Luis Sanz played in the minor leagues from 2006 to 2013. He was signed as an undrafted free agent by Detroit Tigers scout Pedro Chavez.

The hurler pitched in the Tigers system until 2012. He had a couple seasons of note while with Detroit - in 2011, he was 6-4 with 3 complete games and a 2.92 ERA in 15 starts between the Connecticut Tigers and Lakeland Flying Tigers. The next season, he was 12-3 with a 3.31 ERA in 25 games (16 starts) for the West Michigan Whitecaps and Lakeland.

He became a free agent following the 2012 season and signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who let him go following the 2013 campaign. He then played in indy ball and the Venezuelan Winter League through 2016. He pitched three games for the Venezuelan national team in the 2017 Bolivarian Games, tying for second in the tourney behind Kendy Batista's 4. He had a 2.70 ERA and was one of only two hurlers in the Games to register a save (Colombia's Jhon Romero had 3). In the Bronze Medal Game, he relieved Carlos Parra in the 8th with a 5-1 lead over El Salvador. He allowed two hits and fanned one in a shutout inning before Wilce Nieves closed out the win.

His brother, Luis Alberto Sanz, began his professional career in 2008.
