Biographical Information[edit]

Longo Garcia pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Garcia was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 11th round of the 1988 Amateur Draft, and he had a 1-2 record with a 5.46 ERA for the Clinton Giants in 1988. Garcia was 2-4 with a 3.69 ERA for the Miami Miracle in 1989, then the Wei Chuan Dragons signed him when they were founded in 1990. Garcia was selected into the 1990 CPBL All-Star Games, and he pitched 3 shutout innings as the starter of Game 2; he allowed a run in 2 innings in Game 3. Garcia ended up 10-9 with a 2.63 ERA in 1990, ranking 8th in ERA (.71 behind Joe Strong), 3rd in wins (10 behind Ping-Yang Huang) and 7th in strikeouts (94 behind Enrique Burgos. In the 1990 Taiwan Series, Garcia started in Game 2, but he surrendered 3 runs in 1 2/3 innings and Ming-Shan Kang outdueled him with a shutout. The Dragons still beat the Mercuries Tigers in 6 games.

In the 1991 CPBL All-Star Game 2, Garcia relieved Strong in the 4th innings and he got the win with 3 shutout innings. That was the only All-Star win by a Dragons player as of 2023.[1] Garcia ended up 7-9 with a 2.66 ERA, and he was 5th in ERA (.77 behind Huang). In the 1991 Taiwan Series, he pitched a shutout inning in Game 1, then he got the win over Chang-Heng Hsieh in Game 3 as he didn't allow any earned runs in 6 innings. He then started in Game 6, but he only pitched 2 innings while surrendering a run, and the Lions beat the Dragons. Garcia was 3-2 with a 3.69 ERA in 1992, and his professional career ended. [2]

Overall, Garcia was 20-20 with a 2.77 ERA, struck out 175 and pitched 345 innings in 3 seasons in the CPBL.
