Biographical Information[edit]

Larry Suarez peaked at AAA.

Suarez was signed by Chicago Cubs scout Hector Ortega at age 16. He debuted as a pro with the 2007 AZL Cubs, going 1-4 with a 5.31 ERA and walking 26 in 40 2/3 IP. With the same club in 2008, he improved to 0-2, 2.78. He struggled in 2009 for the Boise Hawks (1-0, 10.38, 16 BB, 21 H in 13 IP) and AZL Cubs (1-1, 6.23 in 6 G). That winter, he was 0-1 for the Navegantes del Magallanes, with 4 hits, 2 walks and 3 runs in 2 1/3 IP. In 2010, he was better for the Peoria Chiefs (1-3, Sv, 4.98, 51 K in 47 IP) and Boise (5.30 ERA in 7 G, 20 K in 18 2/3 IP). He split 2011 between Peoria (Sv, 5 UER in 16 IP, 23 K), the Daytona Cubs (1-1, 3.00 in 8 G) and the Tennessee Smokies (0-2, 7.31 in 6 G).

The hefty hurler was with Daytona (0-3, 13.50, 23 H in 10 IP) and Peoria (3-2, 5 Sv, 4.15 in 30 G) in 2012. The next summer, he was with Daytona (0-1, 3.86 in 10 G) and the Iowa Cubs (0 R in 1 IP). That put him at 8-19 with 7 saves and a 5.09 ERA in 147 minor league games (22 starts). In 272 1/3 IP, he had allowed 305 hits and 142 walks while striking out 249. After a four-year hiatus, he got into action again with Magallanes but again did not do well (4 H, 2 BB, 3 R in 1 1/3 IP).

He signed with CB Barcelona in Spain for 2014. He lost his debut against the Astros Valencia, allowing 6 hits, 5 walks and 4 runs (2 earned) in six innings while fanning seven.
