Biographical Information[edit]
South Korean outfielder Kyung-min Na is a player in the San Diego Padres' organization.
He was originally signed at age 18 by the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent; the scouts were Steve Wilson and Aaron Tassano. Na was assigned to the Boise Hawks of the Northwest League to start his career in 2010. In spite of a mediocre hitting line, he played regularly, getting into 66 games with a .208 batting average. He had only 5 extra-base hits - 4 doubles and a triple - but showed good plate discipline with 21 walks. In 2011, he played at four different levels. He hit a sizzling .360 in 28 games for the AZL Cubs, but only .171 in 25 games for Boise. With the higher-level Peoria Chiefs of the Midwest League, his average was .258 in 28 games. He also played 2 games for the AA Tennessee Smokies, going 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts. Overall, he played 83 games and his batting line was .268/.358/.312, showing potential as a leadoff hitter. He drew 33 walks and stole 20 bases in 30 attempts, displaying good speed and plate discipline to offset his lack of power.
On January 6, 2012, he was traded to the Padres along with P Andrew Cashner in return for 1B Anthony Rizzo and P Zach Cates.
