Biographical Information[edit]

Kyle Blair pitched in the minor and independent leagues from 2011 to 2014.

He was drafted twice, initially by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 5th round of the 2007 amateur draft, between pitchers Marc Rzepczynski and Jeremy Hefner and in the same round as hurler Jake Arrieta, but he opted not to sign. He was then drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 4th round of the 2010 amateur draft, one pick after pitcher Kevin Chapman. He was signed by scout Jason Smith.

He played in the Indians system through 2013, peaking at Double-A. His first year, he went 3-5 with a 5.16 ERA in 24 games (14 starts) between two clubs. He then went 5-4 with a 7.03 ERA in 27 games (4 starts) between two teams and in 2013, he was 2-0, 1.42 in 9 relief appearances between four clubs. He pitched for a couple indy league teams in 2014, going 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA in 15 games (7 starts).

Overall, Blair went 12-11 with a 5.52 ERA in 75 games (25 starts). He allowed 207 hits, 30 home runs and 117 walks in 210 1/3 innings, while striking out 168 batters.

Prior to his professional career, he was a well-regarded college prospect. He finished second in the 2009 Cape Cod League in ERA and in 2010, he was picked third-team All-American by Baseball America, alongside Gerrit Cole, Asher Wojciechowski and Noe Ramirez. He was 8-4 with a 2.84 ERA and 126 Ks in 98 1/3 innings that year.
