Biographical Information[edit]
Kyeong-hoon Chung played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 10 years.
Chung was signed by the Samsung Lions in 1990, and he was 1-for-6 in his first season. He then hit .260/.336/.305 in 1991, and he recorded 37 steals with a .291/.393/.361 batting line in 1992. He was 2nd in steals in 1992, 7 behind Soon-chul Lee. Chung then hit .239/.301/.348 in 1993, and he recorded a .250/.321/.287 batting line with 29 steals in 1994. He was on the leaderboard of steals again in 1994, and he was 5th this time (between Tae-won Choi and Pil-sung Kong). The Lions traded him with Young-gyu Jung to the Hanwha Eagles for Jeong-hun Lee and Jeong-soon Jang after the 1994 season.
The Gyeongju native was selected into the KBO All-Star Game for the only time in his career in 1995, and he was 1-for-4 with a game-winning RBI to win the KBO All-Star Game MVP. He ended up hitting .212/.290/.288 with 37 steals in 1995, and he was 3rd in steals (between Min-ho Kim and Hyun-woo Hong). Chung struggled again in 1996 with a .202/.292/.273 batting line, then he played 54 games with a .316/.418/.456 batting line in 1997. He was 10-for-72 in 1998, and he announced his retirement after having a 0-for-3 record in 1999. He later coached for the China national baseball team in the 2002 Asian Games, and he coached Gyeongju High School from 2013 to 2018.
Overall, Chung hit .244/.324/.314 with 360 hits and 10 homers in 10 seasons in the KBO.
