Biographical Information[edit]

Ko-Yao Weng played in the CPBL for 5 years. His nephew Tzu-Hao Tung also played in the CPBL.

Weng was drafted by the Lamigo Monkeys in the 6th round of the 2010 CPBL Draft, and he hit .271/.355/.333 in the CPBL minor league in 2011. He improved to .302/.381/.508 in 2012, and he led the minor league in slugging. Weng also ranked 2nd in steals (8 behind Fu-Chih Chien) and 2nd in triples (1 behind Yuan-Yi Su). He got 7 at-bats with the big club, and he hit a double with a steal. Weng had a .325/.399/.450 batting line in 2013, and he led the league in slugging again. However, he still only had 6 at-bats with the big club.

The Taitung native played a career-high 23 games in the major league in 2014, and his batting line was .239/.327/.261 with 2 steals. Weng was placed in the minors again in 2015, and his batting line was .326/.402/.485 with a league-leading 76 hits. He then hit .339/.438/.503 in 2016, and he led the minors in runs and OBP. However, since the Monkeys already had plenty of solid infielders, Weng only played 21 games with the big club in this period. He hit .281/.369/.409 while leading the minors with 5 triples in 2017, and he recorded a .289/.345/.408 batting line in 2018. Weng announced his retirement after the 2018 season. He was the all-time leader of the CPBL minors for games, at-bats, runs, hits, doubles, triples, steals, total bases and RBI when he retired, and he still held the hits and triples records as of 2023.

Overall, Weng had hit .202/.279/.246 with 23 hits in 5 seasons in the CPBL.
