Biographical Information[edit]

Shortstop Kip Harkrider competed for the United States at the 1996 Olympics. He was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round of the 1997 amateur draft but never reached the major leagues. He began his professional career with the 1998 Vero Beach Dodgers (.282/~.315/.330) and Savannah Sand Gnats (.183/~.205/.183), posting a cumulative line of .241/~.271/.270. He was promoted to the San Antonio Missions the next season and hit .239/~.300/.341 in his first crack at AA, while leading the Texas League with 12 sacrifice bunts.

In 2000 Harkrider returned to San Antonio and fared even worse, at .231/.280/.311. Los Angeles gave up on Kip, who resurfaced in the Central Baseball League in 2003 with the Alexandria Aces, hitting .316/.375/.470 in 37 games. In 2005 Harkrider played for the Edinburg Roadrunners in the CBL and posted a .347/~.391/.531 line. Harkrider missed the number of plate appearances needed to qualify for the batting title, or else he would have placed second in the league's last year.
