Pitcher Kevin Mobley played five seasons in the minor leagues, peaking at AA. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 23rd round of the 1997 amateur draft, out of Georgia Perimeter College.
He was used exclusively as a reliever in his first season, 1997, with the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League, going 2-1, 3.16 in 18 games. After that, he would make a few spot starts each season, although pitching in relief would remain his main task. In 1998, he was 4-3, 4.76 in 34 games for the Lakeland Tigers of the Florida State League, also picking up 2 saves. In 1999, he was back with the same team and went 7-4, 3.82 in 46 games with another 2 saves. He pitched a personal high of 96 2/3 innings, and his 73 strikeouts were also his most in any season.
In 2000, he spent a full year in AA with the Jacksonville Suns of the Southern League and had his best overall season, going 6-0 with a 2.70 ERA in 43 games. He threw a no-hitter on August 3rd. Following the season, on December 15th, he was traded to the Texas Rangers along with fellow reliever Brandon Villafuerte in return for Matt Perisho. He spent his final pro season in the Rangers' system, with the Tulsa Drillers of the Texas League, where he went 3-0, 3.96 in 36 games. He ended his career with a perfect 9-0 mark in AA, and 22-8 overall.
Following his playing career, he returned to his home state of Georgia where he became a high school coach, including working as assistant baseball coach at Pike County High School.
