Biographical Information

Kevin Hart was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 11th round of the 2004 amateur draft. He was signed by scout Ty Brown and made his pro debut that summer.

He reached the majors with the Chicago Cubs in September of 2007, having been obtained in a trade for Freddie Bynum the previous off-season. He had been a starter with the AA Tennessee Smokies and AAA Iowa Cubs, going 12-6, 3.99, but the Cubs used him exclusively as a reliever during the last month. His ERA was 0.82 in games and he was added to the team's postseason roster, pitching one inning in the Division Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, during which he gave up a pair of runs. In 2008, he struggled with the Cubs, with an ERA of 6.51 in 21 games, all in relief, the result of allowing 39 hits and 18 walks in 27 2/3 innings. He moved to the starting rotation in 2009 and did well in his 8 games with the Cubs, going 3-1, 2.60. On July 30th, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates with Jose Ascanio and Josh Harrison for Tom Gorzelanny, but he struggled badly with the Bucs, going 1-8, 6.92 in 10 starts.

Entering spring training in 2010, he was given the inside track on the 5th slot in the Pirates' rotation. He proceeded to walk 17 in 8 spring training innings and was sent down to AAA in the middle of training camp, giving the 5th slot to Daniel McCutchen. His professional career soon ended, as he was released after five unimpressive games with the AAA Indianapolis Indians. He did attempt a comeback in 2012 and pitched well for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the independent Atlantic League, going 1-1, 2.25 in 21 games as a reliever, but that was the end for him.
