Biographical Information[edit]

Keng-Hao Chang pitched in the CPBL for 9 years.

Chang was with Taiwan for the 2008 World Junior Championship and 2009 Asian Junior Championship. He was the #2 overall pick of the 2009 CPBL Draft, taken by the Sinon Bulls. In February, he signed for a 3 million NT bonus (about $93,000 US). He became the youngest player in the history of the Chinese Professional Baseball League and made his pro debut in April 2010. He had a 7-10, 3.44 record in his first year of pro ball. Chang was also selected into the 2010 CPBL All-Star Game, but he allowed a run in 1 2/3 innings and got a blown save.

The Chiayi native was a full-time reliever in 2012, and he had a 4.13 ERA in 52 relief outings while collecting 2 holds. He pitched 46 games in 2012, but his ERA rose to 5.89. Chang then represented Taiwan in the 2012 Asian Championship. He started against the Philippines, and he pitched 4 shutout innings. Taiwan won Silver in that event.

Chang still struggled in 2013, and he had a 5.16 ERA in 26 games. He then suffered from a herniated disc, and missed the next two seasons. Chang came back in 2016, and he collected 12 holds with a 6.64 ERA in 58 appearances. He ranked 3rd in games (7 behind Yu-Hsun Chen) and 3rd in holds (6 behind Hung-Cheng Lai). Chang pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings combined in 3 games in the 2016 Taiwan Series, and helped the EDA Rhinos (the Bulls had changed their name) beat the CTBC Brothers in 6 games.

The veteran reliever miraculously came back in 2017. He had a solid 2.80 ERA in a league-leading 66 appearances, and also notched 16 holds. He ranked 4th in holds, 3 behind Yao-Lin Wang. Chang won the CPBL Most Improved Player Award. However, his ERA rose to 5.20 in 2018, and he only got 7 holds. Chang only had 2 appearances in 2019, then he underwent the Tommy John surgery and missed the next two seasons. He pitched 3 games in 2022, then Chang announced his retirement.

Overall, Chang was 23-24 with a 4.51 ERA, notched 46 holds with 267 strikeouts, pitched 445 1/3 innings in 333 games in 9 seasons in CPBL.
