Biographical Information[edit]

First baseman Kelly Lunn played in the minor leagues from 1948 to 1951 and again 1953.

He began his career with the Pennington Gap Miners in 1948, hitting .284 with 131 hits, four home runs and 15 triples in 113 games. He tied Patrick Wilson for the Mountain States League lead in at-bats (462), placed second in triples (behind George Sifft's 20), finished third in hits and tied for third in games. In 1949, also with Pennington Gap, hit .357 with 178 hits, 32 doubles, 11 triples, 12 home runs and a .538 slugging percentage in 125 games. He led the Mountain States League in hits and total bases (268), tied for first in games played and batting average, finished third in at-bats and triples and tied for third in doubles and home runs.

He moved to the Port Arthur Seahawks in 1950, hitting .311 with 156 hits, five home runs and 13 triples in 134 games. He was second in the Gulf Coast League in triples, behind Roberto Flis' 16. In 1951, he played for the Big Stone Gap Rebels (57 G, 4 HR, .354 BA) and Crowley Millers (74 G, 4 HR, .319 BA) and hit a combined .334 with eight home runs in 131 games. He did not played in 1952, but returned in 1953 to hit .296 with 31 doubles and nine home runs in 120 games for Big Stone Gap. He was also the team's manager that season, leading the squad to a 55-70 record and a sixth-place finish in the standings.

Overall, Lunn hit .318 with 772 hits, 136 doubles, 53 triples and 38 home runs in 623 games.
