Biographical Information[edit]

Ke-Fan Chen played in the CPBL and for the Chinese Taipei national baseball team.

Chen represented Taiwan in the 1995 World Youth Championship, 1997 World Junior Championship, 1999 Intercontinental Cup (going 0 for 2 while backing up Chih-Kang Kao at catcher), 2001 World Port Tournament, 2001 Asian Championship, 2002 Haarlemse Honkbalweek, 2002 World University Championship (0 for 5 with 2 HBP at DH; Kao did the catching), 2003 World Port Tournament and 2003 Baseball World Cup (1 for 7, RBI, 2B, BB, backing up Chao-Kuan Wu at catcher).

The Macoto Cobras drafted Chen in the 2nd round of the 2003 CPBL draft. Chen hit .234/.285/.324 in his rookie year, and recorded a .212/.314/.240 batting line in 2004. Since the Cobras had all-star catcher Chao-Hui Wu, Chen mainly backed up him in his early career. He hit .268/.284/.324 in 2006, but only played 37 games. When Wu retired in 2007, Chen secured the starting catcher spot, and batted .244/.293/.350 with 32 RBI. The Taitung native broke out in 2008. His batting line improved to .294/.349/.366, and he was selected into the All-Star Game the first time of his career. However, the league then banned Chen because of a large gambling scandaln.

Overall, Chen had hit .260/.316/.336 in five seasons in the CPBL.
