Biographical Information[edit]

Kazuya Takamiya pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.

Takamiya represented Japan in the 2005 Asian Championship. The Yokohama BayStars drafted him in the free-acquiring phase of the 2005 NPB draft. Takamiya started 8 games in his rookie year, and ended up 2-6 with a 6.83 ERA. His ERA was a terrible 7.71 in 2007, and he allowed 7 runs in just 5 2/3 innings pitched in 2008. He only pitched 11 games in 2009, and allowed 10 runs in 22 2/3 innings in 2010. The BayStars traded him with Hayato Terahara to the Orix Buffaloes for Shogo Yamamoto and Go Kida after the 2010 season.

Takamiya had a solid 3.97 ERA in 20 games in his first season with the Buffaloes. He pitched well in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2012, recorded a 2.49 ERA in 41 games. However, he only had one appearance with the big club in that season. When Orix signed Keiichi Hirano after the 2012 season, the Hanshin Tigers selected Takamiya as the compensation. Takamiya still only had a single appearance in 2013 while he recorded a 4.08 ERA in the Western League. He improved and had a 2.89 ERA in 22 games in 2014. In the 2014 Nippon Series, Takamiya relieved in Game 2 and Game 3. He had a shutout inning in Game 2, but the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks drove in 3 runs off him (2 singles and a fielder's choice, a run is on the starter Shintaro Fujinami). The 34-year-old Takamiya finally had a career year in 2015. He pitched a career-high 52 games, and his ERA was solid 3.03. However, his ERA rose to 6.39 in 2016, and he announced his retirement after the 2016 season.

Overall, Takamiya was 6-8, collected 21 holds with a 5.50 ERA and pitched 189 2/3 innings in 11 seasons in NPB.
