Biographical Information[edit]
Kazuo Ogawa was a fifth-round pick of the Nankai Hawks in the 1972 NPB draft. He got into one game the next year at third base but did not bat; Mitsuru Fujiwara was Nankai's third baseman most of the season. Ogawa would spend another five seasons in the minors, but not make it back to the top team before retiring as a player.
Ogawa then became a minor league coach and scout for the Hawks, eventually becoming chief scout. He signed Toshiya Sugiuchi, Tsuyoshi Wada, Nagisa Arakaki, Takahiro Mahara and Kodai Senga among others. Managing the Hawks (now the Softbank Hawks)' farm team, he won back-to-back Western League titles in 2012-2013, his two years at the reins. He then became an executive for the club.
