Biographical Information[edit]
Katsumi Oki played and umpired in Japan.
Oki was 2-for-14 with a walk and a run as the third-string catcher for Hankyu in 1937, his lone season in the Japanese Professional Baseball League. He served in the Japanese military during World War II, including the Battle of Leyte Island. As a POW, he saw Harris McGalliard, a former JPBL player who was a US interpreter; the connection helped conditions for the POWs.
He was a Pacific League umpire from 1955-1988. He worked the 1961 NPB All-Star Games, 1964 NPB All-Star Games, 1967 NPB All-Star Games, 1967 Japan Series, 1968 NPB All-Star Games, 1968 Japan Series, 1969 Japan Series, 1970 Japan Series, 1971 Japan Series, 1972 NPB All-Star Games and 1972 Japan Series.
