Biographical Information[edit]
Justin Wylie has played in the independent leagues and for the Great Britain national team.
Wylie hit .357 as a high school senior and his team was ranked #3 nationally by Baseball America. [1] He hit .232/.282/.361 as a college freshman and .306/.390/.409 as a sophomore but went 0 for 17 with four walks as a junior. Transferring to Arizona, he hit .342/.449/.634 in 2019, fielding .970 as a 2B-OF. [2] He played for the indy Birmingham-Bloomfield Beavers that summer, putting up a .215/.386/.329 batting line with 22 walks in 23 games.
Few leagues operated in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He signed with the New Jersey Jackals of the Frontier League for 2021 and produced at a .289/.373/.542 clip with 15 dingers and 64 RBI in 80 games. He tied Dustin Woodcock for 7th in the loop in doubles (25), missing the top ten in RBI by one. In 2022, he batted .306/.398/.564 with 75 runs, 20 homers, 77 RBI and 12 steals in 16 tries. He tied Isaac Benard for tenth in runs, tied for eighth with four triples, missed the top ten in homers by two and tied Dalton Combs for 9th in RBI. He then made Britain's team for the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, joining fellow Frontier Leaguer Nick Ward on the infield. He hit cleanup and played third in their opener against France. He popped up against Kevin Canelon his first at-bat. After a hitless opening game, he took former major leaguer Brian Flynn (on Germany) deep with Harry Ford and Matt Koperniak aboard in the first to begin a rout of the hosts. He hit .385/.529/.692 in three games as Britain won a spot in the 2023 World Baseball Classic for their first World Baseball Classic trip. In that year's qualifiers, he tied for 10th in RBI (4) and tied for 4th in walks (4, even with Jonathan Arauz, Leonardo Reginatto and Eduardo Zurbriggen). He was fourth on the British team's regulars in OPS behind Ford, D'Shawn Knowles and Anfernee Seymour. [3]
