Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Justin Wright began his professional career in 2010 after going 19-7 in three years at Virginia Tech. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 47th round of the 2010 amateur draft.

In his first professional season, he had a 0.00 ERA in 5 appearances for the Batavia Muckdogs, striking out 10 batters in 7 2/3 innings. In 2011, he had 5 saves and a 1.03 mark in 32 games between the GCL Cardinals, Quad Cities River Bandits and Palm Beach Cardinals. He allowed only 27 hits in 52 1/3 innings and struck out 70 batters and was named a MiLB.com Organization All-Star following the season. During the season, he was a Mid-Season All-Star. In 2012, he was 0-3 with a 4.45 ERA in 50 games for the Springfield Cardinals - though he struck out 64 batters in 60 2/3 innings - and in 2013, his ERA rose to 5.34 in 50 appearances for Springfield (though he K'ed 64 batsmen in 59 IP). He began 2014 with Springfield.

He had his first taste of Triple-A in 2014, going 4-0 with a 6.65 ERA in 16 games for the Memphis Redbirds; he also played for the Springfield Cardinals that year and was 6-1 with a 3.43 ERA in 47 games as a whole. In 2015, he played for Springfield and Memphis and went 2-2 with a 3.02 ERA in 48 games.

He also pitched in the Cape Cod League in 2009 (for the Harwich Mariners) and 2010 (Hyannis Harbor Hawks).
