Biographical Information[edit]
Jung-hwa Lee played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 10 years.
Lee played for South Korea in the 1985 Intercontinental Cup. The Binggrae Eagles selected him in the first round of the 1987 KBO draft, and he hit .262/.343/.308 in 48 games in his first season. He then hit .305/.345/.352 in 1988, and he played 112 games with a .294/.333/.386 batting line and 25 steals in 1989. Lee led the league in triples with 6 that season (tied with Kyeong-sik Shin and Chan-yup Roh), ranking 6th in steals (tied with Noh-jun Park and Shin) and he also set the KBO record for stole 21 bases without a caught stealing (broken by Ho-seong Lee). Lee recorded a .256/.324/.318 batting line in 1990.
The Cheongju native had another great year in 1991, and he hit .309/.375/.401 with 7 triples. He was 6th in triples (tied with Deok-kyu Yun, Kyu-ok Heo, Hei-seong Lee and Ho-seong Lee), 9th in steals (tied with Shin and Kwang-rim Kim) and 7th in batting (between Roh and Yun). However, he slumped to .207/.249/.259 in 1992, and he only played 15 games due to injuries in 1993. He struggled again in 1994 as his batting line was .219/.268/.276, then the Eagles traded him to the Samsung Lions for cash. Lee played 65 games with a .247/.305/.312 batting line in 1996, then he announced his retirement.
Overall, Lee hit .260/.316/.328 with 437 hits and 7 homers in 10 seasons in the KBO.
