Biographical Information

Josh Vitters was the third overall pick of the 2007 amateur draft, taken by the Chicago Cubs. He made his major league debut with the Cubs in 2012 but only had a very brief career at the major league level.

Vitters hit .352 as a junior and .390 as a senior, missing two weeks to pneumonia. He slugged .870 as a senior. In the 2005 World Youth Championship, he hit .355 for the US with six doubles, second on the silver medalists. He is deemed a power-hitting prospect. Vitters was signed by scout Denny Henderson and scouting director Tim Wilken for a reported $3.2 million bonus. He debuted professionally with the AZL Cubs on August 21, 2007, going 0 for 3 with two strikeouts and a RBI. He was 2 for 21 after five games. That year, he played for the AZL Cubs and Boise Hawks, hitting a combined .118 in 51 at-bats. In 2008, he split the season between Boise and the Peoria Chiefs, hitting .322 with five home runs and 38 RBI in 65 games. With the Chiefs and Daytona Cubs in 2009, Vitters hit .284 with 18 home runs and 68 RBI. He slumped in 2010, hitting .247 with 10 home runs and 39 RBI in 91 games for Daytona and the Tennessee Smokies.

Vitters is the brother of Christian Vitters.
