José Solarte pitched in the minor leagues and the CPBL.
Solarte began his professional career with the Montreal Expos in 1987, when he went 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA for the GCL Expos. He had a 2.31 ERA in 6 games in GCL in 1988, and he also went 2-2 with a 4.96 ERA for the Jamestown Expos. Solarte left the Expos system after the 1988 season, and he returned to his native Venezuela. After playing for the Águilas del Zulia for about 10 years, Solarte signed with the Chinatrust Whales in 1997. He was 3-3 with a 3.98 ERA for them, then he returned to Zulia.
The Acereros de Monclova of Mexico signed him in 1999, and Solarte was 5-4 with 28 saves and a 2.51 ERA for them. He was third in the Mexican League in saves, behind Luis Ayala and Gaudencio Aguirre. He went 7-6 with 23 saves and a 3.27 ERA in 2000, tying Sixto Baez for 5th in saves. He won the Closer of the Year that winter in Venezuela. He was 7-6 with a 4.16 ERA for the Langosteros de Cancun in 2002. Solarte announced his retirement in 2003.
At the time of his retirement, Solarte was in the top-five in Venezuelan League history with 62 saves.
