Biographical Information[edit]

Jose Rodriguez pitched nine seasons in the minor leagues, including part or all of three years at AAA.

Rodriguez signed with the Atlanta Braves when he was 16 years old. He debuted in 1999 with the GCL Braves, going 1-2 with a save and a 3.61 ERA at age 17. Jose was 3-1 with a 3.96 ERA for the 2000 Danville Braves but walked 40 in 61 1/3 IP while only striking out 31. He was second in the Appalachian League in walks, 3 behind Marcus Moseley.

In 2001, the teenager had a 5-5, 3.52 record for the Jamestown Jammers and significantly improved his control, with 20 walks in 64 innings. It was his last season as a starting pitcher. In '02, Rodriguez became wild again, with 41 free passes in 47 1/3 innings for the Macon Braves; he was 2-0 but with a 6.46 ERA.

Rodriguez spent most of 2003 with the Rome Braves (4-1, 4.20 in 37 G) and also pitched for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (2 R in 8 1/3 IP). Released by the Braves, he was signed by the New York Mets. He pitched in 2004 for four different clubs, going 4-3 in 20 outings and 35 innings. He missed three and a half months with a right elbow strain. He pitched two games at AAA.

In 2005, Jose was 3-5 with 2 saves and a 3.96 ERA for the Binghamton Mets and also saved two games in three appearances for the St. Lucie Mets.

A free agent, Rodriguez was inked to a deal by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He pitched in 2006 for the Montgomery Biscuits (Sv, 4.05 in 5 G) and the Durham Bulls (4-2, Sv, 2.43 in 49 G). Despite a solid year in AAA, he did not get called up to the majors.

Jose moved to the Houston Astros system in 2007. He went 4-4 with four saves and a 5.00 ERA in 52 games in his only full season at AAA. That ended his career in the USA.

Rodriguez was with Venezuela's team in the 2009 Baseball World Cup.

Rodriguez was pitching coach of the DSL Braves in 2016-2019.
