José Padilla has been on the Honduran national team alongside Lombardo Padilla.

He was 0 for 3 in the 2017 Central American Games and pitched one inning against Panama (between Jayson Avila and Edgardo Matute), allowing 3 hits, a walk and 3 runs (2 earned). Backing up Walter Aguilar at catcher in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games Central American Qualifier, he was 0 for 3, handled six putouts error-free and allowed four steals in four tries. During the 2023 Pan American Games Qualifier, he got into one game, starting behind the dish against champion Panama. He was retired by Luis Machuca, handled five chances error-free and threw out one of three who tried to steal, then was replaced by Aguilar.
