Biographical Information

Edgardo Matute pitched for the Honduran national team in the 2017 Central American Games. In their opener against Guatemala, he replaced Elmer Andrade and closed out the 7th (1/3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 UER, 1 K) and then Jayson Avila relieved. In Game 2, he succeeded Jose Padilla and finished the game versus Panama (1/3 IP, 1 BB). Finally, he relieved Andrade and pitched a shutout inning (fanning two) against Gold Medal winner Nicaragua to close out a third loss. Coming to the US for junior college, he was 5-4 with a 4.83 ERA as a freshman and 3-3 with two saves and a 4.44 ERA as a sophomore. It is unclear if he was related to teammate Jose Matute.
