Biographical Information[edit]

Edgardo Matute pitched for the Honduran national team in the 2017 Central American Games. In their opener against Guatemala, he replaced Elmer Andrade and closed out the 7th (1/3 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 UER, 1 K) and then Jayson Avila relieved. In Game 2, he succeeded Jose Padilla and finished the game versus Panama (1/3 IP, 1 BB). Finally, he relieved Andrade and pitched a shutout inning (fanning two) against Gold Medal winner Nicaragua to close out a third loss. [1] Coming to the US for junior college, he was 5-4 with a 4.83 ERA as a freshman and 3-3 with two saves and a 4.44 ERA as a sophomore. [2] It is unclear if he was related to teammate Jose Matute.
