Biographical Information[edit]

José Mayorga played in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system from 2010-2015. Primarily a catcher, Mayorga played mostly in the lower minors though he did reach AA for one game in 2014. Overall, he hit .244/.342/.282 while appearing in 244 games.

Mayorga moved into the coaching ranks immediately after completing his playing career. He reached the major leagues in 2016 as a bullpen catcher for the Phillies. He moved to the Toronto Blue Jays organization the next year and was a bench coach for the Vancouver Canadians in 2017-2018. He became a manager in 2019 with the DSL Blue Jays. Mayorga was scheduled to manage the Bluefield Blue Jays in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic caused the shutdown of the minor league season. In 2021 he was the bench coach for the FCL Blue Jays before taking over as manager in 2022-2023. Mayorga moved up a level in 2024 to manage the Dunedin Blue Jays.

Mayorga also has managing experience in Panama. In both 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 he led the Federales de Chiriqui to the League championship and a berth in the Caribbean Series. Out of eight participating teams, his 2023 Caribbean Series team tied for fifth place and his 2024 Caribbean Series squad finished in second place with a 6-2 record.
