Biographical Information[edit]
Jonathan Guzmán has played in the minors and been on the Dominican national team.
Guzmán was signed by Philadelphia Phillies scout Carlos Salas in August 2015. [1] He hit .300/.370/.346 for the 2016 DSL Phillies with 13 steals in 26 tries, fielding .968 at short. He split 2017 between the GCL Phillies (.248/.299/.320 in 38 G), Williamsport Crosscutters (5 for 19, 4 BB, HR) and Clearwater Threshers (0 for 3). He led Gulf Coast League shortstops with 25 double plays. [2] He impressed enough to be named the #8 prospect in the Gulf Coast League by Baseball America, between Simon Muzziotti and Elehuris Montero. [3]
He fell to .210/.241/.272 with Williamsport in '18. He split 2019 between second and short for the Lakewood BlueClaws, producing at a .251/.298/.316 clip and stealing 31 bases in 42 tries. He tied Ji-hwan Bae and Jordan Wren for 4th in the South Atlantic League in swipes. He led Phillies farmhands in stolen bases, one ahead of Corbin Williams and Luke Williams. Baseball America rated him as having the best infield arm in the Phillies system. [4] After the season, he was on the Dominican squad for the 2019 Premier 12. He did not get to play as Geraldo Perdomo was strong at short and Otto López was at second. [5]
