Biographical Information

Jonatan Isenia made his pro debut in 2012.

Isenia signed with the Baltimore Orioles in December 2011; the scouts were David Stockstill and Ernst Meyer. He was 0-1 with a 1.47 ERA in 13 games for the DSL Orioles in 2012. Isenia was then picked as the youngest player for the Dutch national team in the 2013 World Baseball Classic, five months younger than Xander Bogaerts. Jonatan debuted in a 8-3 loss to Taiwan, replacing Shairon Martis with one out in the bottom of the 7th. He struck out Chih-Sheng Lin then retired Ssu-Chi Chou to end that inning. In the 8th, he fanned Yung-Chi Chen, allowed a single to Chien-Ming Chang, retired Hung-Yu Lin, walked Chiang-Ho Chen and struck out pool MVP Dai-Kang Yang for a fine international debut. In his second game, he relieved David Bergman with a 5-1 deficit against Japan, two on and two out in the bottom of the second. He faced Shinnosuke Abe, who had homered off Bergman to begin the inning, and fared no better than Bergman, serving up a 3-run homer to Abe to give his team a 7-run deficit. He walked Yoshio Itoi but then recovered to retire Sho Nakata, Katsuya Kakunaka, Ginjiro Sumitani, Nobuhiro Matsuda, Hisayoshi Chono and Kazuo Matsui in order. He then left with a strained right elbow, relieved by Mark Pawelek. He was removed from the Dutch roster before the finals, replaced by Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen.
