Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Jon Topolski played in the Houston Astros system from 1999 to 2004. He was originally drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 31st round of the 1998 amateur draft, but did not sign. He did sign after being taken by the Astros in the 4th round of the 1999 amateur draft, a few picks after pitcher Steve Smyth.

He began his professional career with 27 stolen bases for the Auburn Doubledays in 1999, then 24 steals (with 22 caught stealing), 12 triples, 105 walks and a .394 on-base percentage for the Michigan Battle Cats in 2000. Upping the power in 2001, he hit 24 home runs, with 96 RBI, 98 runs scored and 28 steals for the Lexington Legends.

Struggling upon his arrival to the mid-minors, he fell to .237/.343/.360 with just 3 swipes in 9 homers in 102 games for the Round Rock Express in 2002. He played one more full season and most of a third season at Round Rock and had similar results: His career Double A slash line was .232/.339/.385 in 265 games. In 11 Triple A at-bats, he hit .364; he hit .255/.366/.408 with 53 homers, 273 RBI, 95 stolen bases and 343 runs scored in 606 games over 6 seasons.
