Biographical Information[edit]

Jon Leicester was primarily a shortstop in college at the University of Memphis. In fact he was quite dreadful on the mound in his draft year but the Chicago Cubs selected him as a pitcher in the 11th round of the 2000 amateur draft because of his arm strength. He was signed by scout Mark Adair and made his pro debut that summer for the Eugene Emeralds.

Leicester signed with the Orix Buffaloes for 2009 but spent the first two months in the Japanese minors. He was called up on May 30th and debuted the same day, performing terribly in relief with 3 walks and 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning in a 6-4 Buffaloes win over the Yokohama BayStars.

He led the 2012 CPBL with a 2.48 ERA for the Uni-President Lions.

Pitching for the Leones del Escogido of the Dominican League on January 14, 2014, Leicester combined with three other pitchers to toss a no-hitter against the Tigres del Licey that clinched a spot in the championship finals for his teams. He got things started with five scoreless innings, but left with the game still scoreless; his teammates then scored 6 runs as Ramon Garcia, Armando Rodriguez and Fernando Rodney completed the gem, with Garcia getting credit for the win.
