Biographical Information

John Wright has played for the Swedish national team.

Wright made his Elitserien debut at age 16, going 0-4 with a 7.59 ERA and 1.88 WHIP for the Akademin (Swedish baseball academy) team. In 2012, he improved to 2-2, 6.41 though he still walked 20 and gave up 33 hits in 26 2/3 IP. He was the youngest player on Sweden for the 2012 European Championship. He made two appearances in the 2012 Euros. In the first, Wright was Sweden's top hurler in a 8-1 loss to Italy. He relieved Kent Karlsson to open the 7th and retired Gabriele Ermini and Stefano De Simoni. Alessandro Vaglio singled, but Juan Carlos Infante grounded into a force. In the 8th, he fanned Paolino Ambrosino. Anthony Granato singled but Wright whiffed Chris Colabello then got Mattia Reginato on a fly to end two shutout innings. In his second appearance, he replaced Karlsson at the end of another loss, a 13-1 defeat at the hands of Spain. He was again Sweden's top pitcher that game. He allowed a leadoff single to Kelvin Feliz, who advanced on an error on the play. Jesus Golindano singled in Feliz and Javier José Flores singled as well. Wright recovered to get Richard Montiel on a fly and Néstor Pérez hit into a double play to end it.
