Biographical Information[edit]

Reliever John Lepley played in the St. Louis Cardinals system from 1988 to 1991. He made 163 appearances in his career; 145 of them came with the Double-A Arkansas Travelers. He was drafted by the Cardinals in the 24th round of the 1988 amateur draft, a couple picks after outfielder Mike Kelly.

He was 5-1 with a 2.22 ERA in 29 appearances between the Hamilton Redbirds, Savannah Cardinals and Travelers in 1988. He then spent the rest of his career with Arkansas. In 1989, he was 4-6, 3.39 in 59 appearances, finishing second in the Texas League in that category. He was four behind leader Jim Lewis. He went 6-4, 2.62 in 59 games in 1990, this time pacing the circuit in appearances. He wrapped up his career by going 1-2, 4.41 in 16 games in 1991.

Overall, Lepley was 16-13 with a 2.93 ERA. In 209 innings, he allowed 182 hits and 97 walks, while striking out 165 batters.
