Biographical Information[edit]

Jim Lewis was drafted in the 5th round (125th overall) of the 1985 amateur draft from Citrus College by the San Diego Padres. Lewis spent 1985 with the low A Spokane Indians. He then also spent the next three seasons in single A: 1986 with the Charleston Rainbows, 1987 with the Reno Padres, and 1988 with the Riverside Red Wave. He made the jump to Double-A in 1989 with the Wichita Wranglers where he had a 2.70 ERA in 83 1/3 innings of work. In 1990 Lewis stayed with the Triple-A Las Vegas Stars for the whole year, where he posted a 4.55 ERA in 93 innings.

In 1991 Lewis split time between three levels, making only two appearances for Wichita, throwing in 48 games and 85 1/3 innings for Las Vegas, and getting called up to the Padres. He pitched in 12 games and threw 13 innings for the big club. 1992 marked Lewis's last season, which he played for the Baltimore Orioles' Triple-A affiliate the Rochester Red Wings before calling it a career.
