Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Mike Kelly was named Baseball America's College Player of the Year as a sophomore in 1990 at Arizona State University. He batted .376 with 21 home runs, 82 RBI and 20 stolen bases for the Sun Devils. He would be inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015.
He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves with the second overall pick in the 1991 amateur draft following his college career and immediately became a top prospect. Kelly was ranked as high as the 19th best prospect in the game according to Baseball America, and ranked among the Top 60 prospects each year from 1992 through 1994. Kelly wasn't able to live up to the hype and after just 214 at bats over the course of two seasons, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds for a pair of pitching prospects.
Notable Achievement[edit]
- Won a World Series with the Atlanta Braves in 1995 (he did not play in the World Series)
