Biographical Information[edit]

John Kelly pitched in the USA, Italy and Taiwan.

Kelly was drafted by the New York Mets in the 11th round of the 1994 Amateur Draft, and he went 4-2 with a 3.34 ERA for the Pittsfield Mets in his first season. He was 8-8 with a 3.88 ERA for the Capital City Bombers in 1995, but he only pitched one game for the St. Lucie Mets in 1996 then he was sent to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kelly had a 3.68 ERA in 7 games for the Lynchburg Hillcats in '96, and he allowed 2 runs in 2/3 of an inning for the Augusta GreenJackets in 1997. He moved to the Seattle Mariners in 1998, and he went 4-4 with a 5.45 ERA for the Lancaster JetHawks while having a 5.23 ERA in 8 starts with the Orlando Rays. He was 7-4 with a 3.05 ERA for the Waterbury Spirit in 1999.

The Chianan Luka of Taiwan signed him in the middle of the 1999 TML season, and he went 6-5 with a 4.31 ERA for them. He also pitched 7 games with a 6.00 for the Taichung Agan in that season. Kelly stayed with the Agan in 2001, and he was 12-10 with a 4.17 ERA and 144 strikeouts. His 81 walks, 98 earned runs and 112 runs allowed all broke TML single season records. Kelly then went to Italy, and he pitched for the Modena Baseball Club from 2001 to 2002. He returned to the USA in 2003, and he 13-2 with a 2.17 ERA for the North Shore Spirit. Kelly then went 8-3 with a 2.60 ERA in 2004, and the Mariners signed him again. He was 1-2 with a 5.23 ERA for the AAA Tacoma Rainiers in that season.

Kelly returned to the Spirit in 2005, and he was 12-4 with a 3.49 ERA. He had a solid 1.92 ERA with a 8-1 record for the Brockton Rox in 2006, and he also went 2-2 with a 4.59 ERA for the New Jersey Jackals. Kelly then had a 2.79 ERA in 3 games with the Spirit, and he was 7-2 with a 2.27 ERA for the Rox. He still pitched well in Brockton as he had a 9-5 record with a 2.56 ERA in 2008, but he slumped to 2-3 with a 6.23 ERA in 2009. Kelly then bounced back as he was 9-5 with a 3.61 ERA for the Worcester Tornadoes in 2010, and he went 1-1 with a 2.15 ERA for the Rox in 2011. He announced his retirement after the 2011 season. Kelly later coached the Worcester Tornadoes, and he became an assistant coach for the Worcester State University in 2022.
