Biographical Information[edit]

Joel McKeithan played two seasons in the Frontier League in 2017 and 2018 after playing college baseball at Vanderbilt University for three seasons and North Carolina State University for one year. He was drafted once, by the Colorado Rockies in the 39th round in the 2010 amateur draft, coming out of high school. He was an infielder as a player, seeing time at second base, third base and shortstop.

McKeithan got his start in coaching as a hitting instructor for Driveline Baseball from 2016-2018. After his playing career ended he parlayed these experiences into a hitting coach position with the Williamsport Crosscutters in 2019. He was slated to return to the Crosscutters in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down the minor league season. McKeithan joined the Detroit Tigers organization in 2021 as their minor league hitting coordinator.

In 2022 the Cincinnati Reds hired McKeithan as an assistant hitting coach and offensive coordinator. In the latter role he was responsible for overseeing hitting development at all levels of the organization. His efforts led to a promotion for the 2023 season as the Reds' hitting coach where he remained in Reds.

He is the great-nephew of Tim McKeithan, grandson of Jerry McKeithan and brother of Aaron McKeithan and Tim McKeithan.
