Biographical Information[edit]
Joe Dunand is the nephew of all-time great Alex Rodriguez.
He made his major league debut for his hometown team, the Miami Marlins, on May 7, 2022 against the San Diego Padres. Playing third base and batting 9th, he went 2-for-4 and hit his first major league homer off Sean Manaea in an 8-0 win. The Marlins had drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2017 amateur draft, out of North Carolina State University; before that, the Cleveland Indians had taken him in the 35th round in 2014, coming out of high school, but he had declined their offer in order to attend college. He was just the third player in Marlins history to homer in his first major league at-bat, after jeremy Hermida (who had famously hit a grand slam) and Mitch Lyden. His other hit was a double, and the great debut game earned him congratulations from his famous uncle.
