Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Robinson reached AA as a player then became a scout. His nephew Nick Robinson also played in the minors.
The Chicago Cubs took Robinson in the 21st round of the 1990 amateur draft. He hit .224/.321/.269 in 26 games that summer for the Peoria Chiefs. In 1991, he hit .284/.397/.391 and fielded .994 as the starting backstop for the Geneva Cubs. He split New York-Penn League All-Star honors at catcher with Mike Daniel. He backed up Matt Walbeck with the '92 Charlotte Knights, fielding .992 and hitting .253/.360/.302 in 63 games. He finished up his playing career with the 1993 Orlando Cubs, batting .231/.310/.269 in 20 games. After two shoulder operations, he called it quits. He had hit .260/.366/.331 with 85 walks, 57 runs and 59 RBI in 173 minor league games. He fielded .990.
Robinson became the Boston Red Sox scout for Texas in 1998. He has signed a number of players, including: Drake Britton, Clay Buchholz, Tyler Lockwood, David Murphy, Ryan Pressly, Dominic Ramos, Dustin Richardson, Kelly Shoppach, Iggy Suarez, Alex Wilson and Brandon Workman.
