Biographical Information

Edgar Forrest Wolfe (Jim Nasium) was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1874. A sports cartoonist and sportswriter, he studied at the Pittsburgh Art School, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Students League in New York. He began his career at the New York American art department (1898-?) and the Philadelphia North American art department. He managed the arts department of the Pittsburgh Press, Pittsburgh Dispatch and Philadelphia Inquirer, becoming a sports cartoonist/feature writer (1907-1922). Beginning as a sports cartoonist, he evolved into a cartoonist/sportswriter. His sports cartoons appeared on the covers of The Sporting News many years. He retired from newspaper work in 1929 and thereafter free-lanced, his work appearing in Nation's Business, Liberty, The Sporting News, the Saturday Evening Post, among many others. For a time, he wrote a column for the Philadelphia Daily News. He always used his pen name, Jim Nasium. He died at age 84 on August 19, 1958 at St. Louis, MO.
