Biographical Information[edit]
Jim Egan played in the majors for the Troy Trojans in 1882, a team that had four future Hall of Famers on it. All of the pitchers that year, except for Egan, went into the Hall - Mickey Welch, Tim Keefe and Buck Ewing (Buck pitched one game). In 1883, Jim played for the Brooklyn Grays. Unfortunately, in September, 1884, he died.
In addition to pitching, Jim often appeared at other positions in the field, both with Troy and with Brooklyn.
"Egan, the "Troy terror", who was suspended about a week ago, was reinstated by the Brooklyn Club, having promised to reform." - Sporting Life, June 3, 1883
"Five thousand Brooklyn people witnessed a fine game on the Fourth between the Grays (sic) and the Harrisburg Club. Loose fielding by Brooklyn enabled the Harrisburgs to win. Egan, of the Brooklyn Club, pitched in fine style and he was ably supported by Farrow, who caught well." - Sporting Life, July 8, 1883 issue
