Biographical Information

Jim Dyck was signed by the New York Yankees in 1949 at age 19. He finally broke into the majors at age 29, as the third baseman for the St. Louis Browns, during their last two years in St. Louis in 1952 and 1953. Traded away to the Cleveland Indians in 1954, he was bought back by the team, now the Baltimore Orioles, in 1955 and spent parts of that year and 1956 with them.

His best year was 1952, when he hit 15 homers with 64 RBI. He played 310 of his 330 games with the St. Louis/Baltimore team. Ending his major league career with the Cincinnati Redlegs in 1956, Dyck toiled for more five years in the Pacific Coast League before retiring in 1961.

During his professional career, Dyck played for 19 different teams, some on multiple occasions. While in the minors, Dyck missed the 1943-1945 seasons due to military service. He owned a bowling alley after his playing days ended.
