Biographical Information[edit]

Third baseman Jim Bishop played in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Bishop was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 5th round of the 1981 Amateur Draft, and he hit .268/.348/.391 with 4 homers for the Medicine Hat Blue Jays in 1981. He batted .286/.373/.437 with 15 homers for the Florence Blue Jays in 1982, then he recorded a .267/.357/.418 batting line with the Kinston Blue Jays in 1983. Bishop was promoted to the AA Knoxville Blue Jays in 1984, and he hit .284/.353/.394 with 7 homers there. However, he slumped to .176/.253/.275 in 1985, while suffering a torn ligament in his glove hand diving for a ground ball. The Jays demoted him to the class-A Ventura County Gulls in 1986. Bishop hit .261/.379/.365 there, and he also played 22 games with a .211/.279/.239 batting line in Knoxville. He left the Blue Jays system after the 1986 season.

Joining the Cleveland Indians in 1987, Bishop only played 20 games for the Williamsport Bills and he had a .190/.299/.224 batting line, before moving to the co-op San Bernardino Spirit in July. He then hit .240/.347/.339 for the Cedar Rapids Reds of the Cincinnati Reds in 1988, and his batting line was .230/.332/.352 with the Miami Miracle in 1989. He also hit .278/.383/.433 in 133 games with the Salinas Spurs in 1991, and his batting line was for the Birmingham Barons in 1992.

Bishop then joined the Jungo Bears of the CPBL in 1994. He was selected into the 1994 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was 0-for-1. Bishop ended up hitting .276/.329/.476 with 17 homers and a league-leading 86 strikeouts in 1994, and he was 4th in homers (8 behind Sil Campusano). He only hit .238/.309/.345 for the Bears in 1995, and his professional career ended.[1]

Overall, Bishop hit .260/.350/.381 with 919 hits and 75 homers in the minors and .261/.321/.425 with 140 hits and 21 homers in the CPBL.
