Biographical Information

Outfielder Jesús Sánchez was signed by the Tampa Bay Rays on July 2, 2014. He spent his first pro season in 2015 with the DSL Rays, hitting .335 in 61 games. In 2016, he moved to the United States with the GCL Rays and Princeton Rays, putting up a combined line of .329/.351/.549 in 56 games. Except for his aversion about drawing walks, he was quite successful, with 10 doubles, 8 triples and 7 homers. In 2017 he spent a full season with the Bowling Green Hot Rods of the Midwest League where in 117 games, he hit .305/.348/.478. His walk rate improved significantly and he hit 29 doubles and 15 homers, scoring 81 runs and driving in 82. he was named both a mid-season and a postseason All-Star.

In 2018, he split his season between the Class A Charlotte Stone Crabs and AA Montgomery Biscuits, hitting .282/.324/.433. He had 23 doubles and 11 homers, scored 70- runs and drove in 75. He was named to the World Team at the 2018 Futures Game. For the third straight year, he was named an organizational All-Star. On July 31, 2019, he was traded to the Miami Marlins along with P Ryne Stanek in return for Ps Nick Anderson and Trevor Richards.

he was one of a boatload of players to appear briefly with the Marlins during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, as an early outbreak of the virus among players led to a scramble for warm bodies. He appeared in 10 games that season, but went just 1 for 25. In 2021, he did a lot better in his 64 games at the major league level, batting .251 with 14 homers and 36 RBIs, good for an OPS+ of 115. That gave him a chance to claim a job as a starting outfielder in 2022, and while he was hitting just .218 after 43 games, he was showing some flashes of brilliance. On May 30th, he hit a veritable moonshot, propelling a ball 496 foot for a homer in what was the longest hit in the majors to that point of the season, and tied for the third longest ever, as measured by Statcast. The ball, hit off Ryan Feltner of the Colorado Rockies landed into the upper deck at Coors Field, helped in its flight by the thin air of Denver, CO, for one of the longest balls ever hit by a left-handed batter in a ballpark that had seen plenty of very long homers in its three decades of existence.
